About this dataset
Access to transit tells you how much of a population in a jurisdiction have access to a transit stop or station. Access is defined as being within a quarter mile of a bus stop, half mile of a heavy rail station, or a mile of a commuter rail station. Access to paratransit is calculated as the population within three-fourths of a mile of a fixed route, as required by the Federal Transit Administration.
