About this dataset

<p><span style='font-family:&quot;Avenir Next W01&quot;, &quot;Avenir Next W00&quot;, &quot;Avenir Next&quot;, Avenir, &quot;Helvetica Neue&quot;, sans-serif; font-size:16px;'>Public web map application for the LandTrack GIS project.</span></p><p>The LandTrack system is used to track the Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) review of Traffic Analysis submissions as required by §15.2-2222.1 of the Code of Virginia (Chapter 527 of the 2006 Acts of Assembly) and the Traffic Impact Analysis Regulation 24 VAC 30-155-10 et. seq. Roads are a critical public resource and constitute a major investment of the public’s money. Traffic impacts caused by new development – a reduction in the traffic carrying capacity of the highways, more crashes and traffic congestion – can be very costly for the state government and local governments, as well as the broader community.</p><div><div style='font-family:&quot;Avenir Next W01&quot;, &quot;Avenir Next W00&quot;, &quot;Avenir Next&quot;, Avenir, &quot;Helvetica Neue&quot;, sans-serif; font-size:16px;'>&nbsp;</div><div style='font-family:&quot;Avenir Next W01&quot;, &quot;Avenir Next W00&quot;, &quot;Avenir Next&quot;, Avenir, &quot;Helvetica Neue&quot;, sans-serif; font-size:16px;'><div style='font-family:inherit;'>In 2006, the General Assembly enacted Chapter 527 to expand VDOT’s role in providing transportation related assistance to local governments to their planning and development review process. Chapter 527 requires localities to submit to VDOT for review proposed comprehensive plans and amendments, and traffic analysis studies on rezonings for land use proposals that will have a significant impact on state highways. The regulations establish the rules and procedures that control when a proposal must be submitted, what must be included in a submission, the response times, and the associated fees. VDOT will review and provide written comments to the local government on the traffic impact of each submission. The locality may take official action on the proposal after receiving VDOT’s advisory comments. In this web site, LandTrack Projects feature layers represent VDOT Land Use projects. These GIS feature layers are new and being added to on a daily basis internally, with updates here from internal sources occurring weekly. At present, these feature layers are not exhaustive and do not represent all of the VDOT projects and will be more complete over time.</div></div></div>
