The dataset provides county-level typology codes developed by USDA’s Economic Research Service to describe the diverse economic and demographic characteristics of rural counties. It includes economic codes that highlight both high industry concentrations and dominant industry dependence, reflecting each county’s industrial structure. Additionally, it provides six demographic typology codes related to social and population characteristics often relevant to rural policy.
